Trying to blog using my iPad for the first time (even tried uploading photo). Hurhurhur. So I'm now in the middle of revising (ahemahem) but I got distracted. -Decided to blog on my MacBook instead since .html makes me woozy- -Blogger only allows .html on the iPad-
… Before I started my revision, I was reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell (I really like him; I've read Blink & almost done with The Tipping Point) & he was talking about geniuses. I like to believe that I'm a genius (I know this sounds really egoistic but true HURHUR) but then Gladwell pointed out that geniuses are just ordinary people (it's the outliers that stands out; you should read the book). I read Battle Hymns of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua in the weekend & her 2 daughters are concertmasters (okay, maybe only 1 but that's not the point). The thing is, her daughters weren't born prodigies (she didn't say that, I just came to a conclusion) - they just got really good because the "Tiger Mother" makes them practice crazy long hours daily on their instruments. Gladwell also emphasized that the usual people who reach the top practices for at least 10,000 hours before they get to where they are now. So there's this 10,000 hours theory. "Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing you do that makes you good." -Malcolm Gladwell ; Outliers Then the story directs back at me (& maybe Angelica). I like to think that I'm smart & it doesn't take much effort for me to score well in tests (except maybe Mandarin). The thing is, after awhile, I realize that my peers caught up & even did better than me (In Angelica's case, maybe she was one of those diamonds in the rough, maybe she was a prodigy). Like me, due to circumstances & preference, she hardly practice on her instruments (piano, guitar & cello). I'd like to challenge that 10,000 hour theory since after all, it's a win-win. … Okay so this blog post really went off topic ..but I kinda typed whatever that has been in my head all morning. Also another proof that my essays suck. For now, I'm gonna go through my Math notes to see if I still possess the genius in me. ps. My interpretation of the book might not be accurate since I'm barely half-way done :) pps. I think that I'm a genius because all lazy people are geniuses (more on that theory next time) ppps. You can only upload pictures to blogger using the iPad if it's from a URL thingy - can't upload the pictures in your Photo Album ..unless you e-mail it in. Love, Peace & Malcolm Gladwell MICHTASHIA |
